Your Bridge To Success

It shall be the purpose of the James Sprunt Foundation, Incorporated to promote the development of James Sprunt Community College and all its programs and activities.

The Foundation's Beginnings

The James Sprunt Community College Foundation was established in September of 1973, by the Board of Trustees of the then James Sprunt Technical College. This establishment was a formal acknowledgement of the need for private support to supplement limited public funds in education. The Trustees recognized that private funds were needed in order to allow the college to better serve students and the college community with financial aid, scholarships and other advancement programs.

The Foundation Today

James Sprunt Community College Foundation is a vital partner with James Sprunt Community College. It is a partnership that extends far beyond the walls of the classrooms and borders of the college grounds. The foundation’s on-going commitment to assist the college in increasing its quality of programs and services, to provide additional financial assistance to deserving students, and to continue building a solid endowment for future needs, extends this partnership throughout Duplin County and communities across Southeastern North Carolina.

Today the foundation is able to distribute monies through an endowment of nearly $1 million. These distributions are made available to support student scholarships, student loans, programs of innovative teaching techniques, special institutional projects, and awards of recognition for faculty and students.

What the Partnership Means

Although James Sprunt Community College is a state-assisted institution, educational funds provided by the state come with strict guidelines for their use. Many areas needing increased support such as student scholarships, special programs, equipment acquisition, and facilities development receive insufficient or no funding.

The range of opportunities and the quality of programs and services James Sprunt Community College can offer to students does not depend solely upon the amount of tax support it receives. Rather, it increasingly depends upon the level of private support generated from the community it serves. To assist JSCC with the development and maintenance of quality in education, the James Sprunt Community College Foundation must continue to seek an increased level of private support.

The Partnership and You

Support comes from community members like you. Your support will allow the foundation to help the college retain its current annual enrollment of nearly 1,500 students, through some form of instruction.

Your generous contributions will help provide an education to students with a thirst for knowledge and an ambition to contribute professionally to our communities. Many current and potential students fitting this profile unfortunately may not have the financial resources to continue their education, while others may not apply at all.

Your financial assistance will enrich your community as it enriches the lives of others like Ena Jones, a JSCC student who states:

"My education here at James Sprunt will help me open doors to my future that I would otherwise not be able to open. Because I am receiving a scholarship, I do not have to work while I am going to school. This has allowed me to focus on my school work to receive grades high enough to be accepted to Mount Olive College where I will work toward my bachelor’s degree. The scholarship program has helped me go further than I ever dreamed possible."

Title IX - Sexual Misconduct: James Sprunt Community College is committed to providing and promoting an environment in which students can engage fully in the learning process.
