What is Student Support Services
(SSS)
Student
Support Services is a federally funded program that serves over 210 eligible
students throughout the academic year. Our program consists of a director, program
counselor, special needs advisor, academic skills advisor, math skills advisor,
technology assistant, and administrative assistant. By working in cooperation
with all offices of JSCC, we provide the academic support necessary to help you
stay in college and successfully meet your educational goals. SSS is located in
the Strickland Center Annex on the JSCC campus.
Eligibility:
Students eligible for Student Support
Services must demonstrate an academic need and meet one of the following
criteria:
1. Qualify as a first generation college students (neither parent has a
four-year college degree)
2. Qualify as "low income" by meeting income limits set by the U.S.
Department of Education
3. Qualify as a student with a disability (documentation required for medical
or other)

Workshops
in: test-taking skills, career decision-making, stress management,
time-management, financial aid, essay writing, note taking and study skills

events, including trips to places of cultural, historical interest such as NYC
and Washington DC
