Overview of 2008 Reaffirmation of Accreditation Process

Every ten years, member institutions undergo a review in order to receive reaffirmation of accreditation by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools . JSCC is currently undergoing this process. Below is more information about the process.

What is SACS?
SACS is the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and is charged with the accreditation process for the eleven US southern states. SACS consists of three commissions. The Commission on Colleges accredits institutions of higher learning such as JSCC.

Why is it important for JSCC to be accredited?
Accreditation allows the credits from JSCC to transfer to other colleges and universities, students can obtain Federal funds for financial aid, and the college receives funding from the state. Without accreditation, the degrees awarded from the college are reduced in value and the reputation of the college is diminished.
